Description

Nightmare! The full moon and a beautifully clear night! What to image? It had to be something bright, as I have neither the equipment or the skill to tackle narrow band imaging. I thought, maybe that old favourite the 'Owl' nebula would be a possibility. Surprise, surprise, the 'Owl' is not one of your typical bright planetaries. Yes, it's big and beautiful but there was not a lot to see on my 2 minute subs. I had a very high background due to the moonlight, though the 'Owl' was virtually overhead. I took 45 exposures and sigma combined them in AstroArt.

And here's the result:

And some of data on the subject:

Type: PN Class: IIIa

Size: 204"X198"

Magnitude: 09.55v

Surface brightness: 11.9

Brightest star: 16.01

There are actually quite a few faint background galaxies scattered across the image, noticeably the one at 6-o-clock, MCG+09-19-014, mag. 16.1, very near the bright star.
